The Stupa

Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX, the founder of Maitripa Centre, passed away on 24 July 2012. His Holiness Gyalwang 17th Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje and high lamas throughout Asia and the West performed prayers for the swift return of his rebirth (tulku). Representatives of Thrangu Monastery, including the Venerable 8th Zuri Rinpoche, the Venerable 9th Zuri Rinpoche and representatives from the Very Venerable Khenchen 9th Thrangu Rinpoche’s centres around the world oversaw a traditional Tibetan Buddhist cremation ceremony only fitting for a Lama of Traleg Rinpoche’s calibre.

In 2013 Drupon Rinchen Tseling-la, Retreat Master from Thrangu Monastery Tibet, oversaw the building of the memorial stupa of Traleg Rinpoche IX at Maitripa Centre. Built under strict traditional guidelines and containing the precious relics of Traleg Rinpoche amongst many other sacred consecrated items. Now the centerpiece of Maitripa Centre, the stupa of Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX is a constant reminder of the qualities that this extraordinary lama embodied in his work, bringing an integrated form of Buddhism suitable for Westerners to Australia and the West and also in his efforts to establish a truly non-sectarian, open hearted approach to spirituality and contemporary thinking.
